Sam is convalescing after breaking his ankle early last night attempting to buy food from Taco Bell. Really. No lawsuit is pending unless you can bring suit against yourself for being a klutz. While he's mulling an appearance, it would fly in the face of common sense and doctor's orders (7 to 10 days of foot elevation; visit the orthopedist). We are, however, dealing with Sam.
48HFP teams must base their films on one of 13 genres (ranging from buddy film to Sci-Fi) selected from a hat. Officials then randomly draw a character, prop and line of dialogue that each team must incorporate into their film. Assignments are made on a Friday night and film teams must write, shoot, edit and score a movie in the next 48 hours. A typical running time is between four and seven minutes.
The BadScience team was given the following required film elements:
genre: holiday
character: Kenny or Kendra Colter, tattoo artist
prop: a pie
line of dialogue: "I bet you think you're clever, huh?"
Tonight's primary was set in Albuquerque's Geronimo Center with Terry Brewer (Sam) dodging questions about his wife/candidate's rumored pregnancy and an alleged groping incident in Kansas.
(It was reported that two local entertainment reviewers were in attendance. No one had the skinny regarding which publication.)
It was Open Mic on the Oriental Theater's big stage last night. Sam went on around 11:00 before five lively audience members and the other comics on hand. He experimented with his delivery and seemed satisfied.
Sam will perform standup and sketch comedy in the Bovine Metropolis Theatre's adult-oriented, comedy variety show, Bleu Cow5 III, on Saturday, June 28 (11:55 p.m. / $5).
Convention?, is the best show about a fake presidential campaign you'll ever see. It’s a behind-the-scenes glimpse into a fictional presidential nomination campaign. Sam portrays Terry Brewer, the husband and campaign manager of candidate Sandy Brewer.
After tonight performance, only 14 shows remain, so bring a friend (renting space is not cheap) each and every Tuesday to the Avenue Theater (7:30 pm / $10 and includes one free drink).
Sam was in Times Square last night toasting the new year. He'll be meeting with Big Shots and filming, hopefully, in NYC in early February. In the meantime he'll be crashing on the sofas of anyone who'll allow it--or wasn't warned--from Manhattan to Ithaca College.
Electric Mind Gravy--Sam (drums), Clay DeHaan (bass), Kevin Schultz (guitar); Kalan Culkin (baritone sax)--has recorded a seven song e.p. of jazz punk called Flannel. It is currently being remixed by producer, Chris Marquez, but all seven demos can be heard beginning New Year's Day on internet station, KRFC, RadioFreeColorado.
"I Know What You Did Last Christmas," was mentioned in the December issue of 5280 magazine as a best bet for entertainment this holiday season. Fridays and Saturday through December 22 at the Bovine Metropolis (8:00 p.m. / $16).
Sam performs as the caterer's son, Mickey Black, and the bride's ex-boyfriend, Michael Just, in the off-Broadway production of Tony n' Tina's Wedding at the 1770 Sherman Street Event Complex. Presented by Comedy Works (303-595-3637), the show runs November 27 thru December 2 (7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday; 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday / $65-$75 includes dinner).
"I Know What You Did Last Christmas" reopens November 16th
Sam Tallent appears with Acme Comedy Players to reprise the oh so popular holiday show, I Know What You Did Last Christmas, opening November 16 at Denver’s Bovine Metropolis Theatre. All members of the 2006 troupe return to perform Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. through Christmas ($16).
Due to clouded contractual constraints, it can only be suggested that Sam, Galloway Allbright and Ryan Mattingly might be preparing scripts for an undisclosed number of internet events that may, or may not, feature members of the comedic phenomenon known as Club Sensationzzz. Much more, much later.
The life and times of rock and roller, Johnny Champagne, was examined tonight with eerie precision by Club Sensationzzz at their "second Wednesday of the month" sketch comedy show at the prestigious Avenue Theater.
Sam performed tonight at the Comedy Works New Faces Contest and drew the unenvied opening spot. While well received, he didn't capture the title with its coveted "two round trip tickets anywhere Frontier Airlines flies." He had a large time regardless and wants to thank everyone who showed up to support him but especially his beloved "Julie Mama."
Today, Rhonda Moore's article about Sam and the mysterious events surrounding the recent Club Sensationzzz's gig at the Avenue Theater was published for all to read, ponder, then mock unmercifully.
The New Faces Contest started July 23rd with 130 comedians. Each week seven comics were eliminated while three moved on to subsequent rounds. Tonight Sam advanced to the finals in the Comedy Works's 10th Annual New Talent Search presented by Frontier Airlines. Sam will compete with nine other comedians on Monday, September 24 (8:00 p.m. / $12). While humble, he is extraordinarily pumped. Thanks for your support, Denver.
On the Spot, game improvisation, Saturday, August 25, 8:00 p.m., $16 / 10:15 p.m., $10 (note: those attending the 8 o'clock show get to see the second show for free);
Club Sensationzzz (Sam, Galloway Allbright; Ryan Mattingly) perform an all new sketch comedy show this evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Avenue Theater. Because of the exuberant response to July's show, Club Sensationzzz is now part of the Avenue's Wednesday Night Series. So grab somebody and fill the seats to keep the owners happy. All tickets are $10 and includes one free drink and 90 minutes of funny.
A hip and energetic crowd were wowed by Club Sensationzzz at their inaugural show at the Avenue Theater last night. In addition to performing, Sam, Galloway Allbright and Ryan Mattingly co-wrote, -produced and -directed the 90 minute sketch comedy show. No official word yet, but Sam's hopeful last night's enthusiastic audience response will convince the owners to give CS a recurring spot at the Avenue the second Wednesday of each month. Delightful.
